I have a passion for the public relations field and want to express it through many lenses.
My first experience where I started to feel as though this was where I belonged was in high school. In my marketing classes and working on the yearbook staff offered a glimpse into marketing and communications with several real-world applications. Through our student store and creating a published book that students purchased we had the opportunity to create and sell goods to consumers. Being in this role allowed me to focus on my attention to detail by re-reading copies to check for proper grammar and forming aesthetic design elements on Adobe In-Design and Photoshop. I also adapted quickly when navigating the Adobe Suite as I was not familiarized with it prior to joining the staff. I prioritized different tasks such as planning out when to conduct student interviews and when to photograph events. Finally, I maintained a high standard of professionalism when writing and producing content that would be published for students, staff and parents to view. This position taught me the importance of developing engaging media while also upholding a positive brand image that can be applied to my future PR work.
Within the past year, I have been directly part of social media strategy through two organizations—Simple X and Oregon Softball.
Through the University of Oregon’s Portland Internship Experience (P.I.E.), I was an intern during the summer of 2022 for Simple X, ” a company with the goal of “bridging the gap between Black professionals and the workplace.” I developed strategies for various social media platforms, wrote newsletters and blogs about opportunities for Black professionals and designed graphics and wrote captions for daily social media posts. This blog is an important way for me to continue building on the writing I have completed for Simple X.
Currently, I work on a team of five for our client, Oregon Softball creating graphics, social media posts and strategizing the best way to market the team. We communicate with the client weekly to ensure their needs are met through our social media work, trend research and media pitches. I have a deep love of sports that started when I played soccer in kindergarten and only grew through being curious and asking my dad questions about sports. Working with Oregon Softball only furthers my desire to work for and write about sports in the realm of PR and women in sports altogether.
