How the NBA All-Star Game has continued to prove that Damian Lillard is the most well-rounded player

In 2014, Damian Lillard took part in the Rising Stars Challenge, Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, Slam Dunk Contest, and the All-Star Game to become the first player in NBA history to take part in five events during the All-Star festivities. If that isn’t a player who can do it all, I don’t know who is. But even before and after making history in 2014 Damian Lillard has shown off his skillset through the NBA’s All-Star competitions.
He’s called “Logo Lillard” for a reason. With three 3-point contest appearances and his first-ever win tonight, Lillard finally has the accolade to prove what we already knew to be true—he has the range. He is a proven threat no matter where he stands on the court and he continued his streak of clutch shooting by winning the 3-point contest with his last shot.
Although Dame is known most notably for his long-range shooting, his passing and ball-handling skills can’t be overlooked. His first appearance in the Skills challenge was as a rookie in 2013, giving him his first win. He went on to win again in 2014. This competition is all-encompassing and tests passing, shooting and ball-handling abilities, so Lilliard’s two wins solidified him as a gifted point guard.
Although the NBA All-Star Game is not particularly known for having great defensive plays, Lilliard’s solid defense in his seven All-Star appearances shows that he is dedicated on both sides of the court. He may not be the tallest player out there, but he always puts in the work with his quick feet and active hands. He wants to make the plays that will win him the ball back.
Lillard’s leadership skills are arguably his most important skill set. Now, over ten years since being drafted to play for the Portland Trail Blazers, many of the younger players joining the All-Star line-up are looking to him for guidance. He also puts down some numbers during his All-Star Games. In 2021, Lillard helped pave the way to a Team Lebron win with 31 points in 21 minutes with a final score of 163-160.
Lillard is getting better with time and his All-Star appearances back up the work he does for the Blazers. It’s no secret he’s talented, but these opportunities show him in a different light. Continuing to participate and win challenges across all skill areas show that he is powerful in all aspects of basketball. Don’t count out Damian Lillard.
